FRUSTRATED OR OPPOSED?

Do me justice, O God, and fight my fight against a faithless people; from the deceitful and impious man rescue me. For you, O God, are my strength. Why do you keep me so far away? Why must I go about in mourning, with the enemy oppressing me? Send forth your light and your fidelity; they shall lead me on and bring me to your holy mountain, to your dwelling-place. Then will I go in to the altar of God, the God of my gladness and joy; then will I give you thanks upon the harp, O God, my God!

REFLECTION

In our utmost desire to obey the Lord in rendering service to His church, we really cannot please everybody. There will always be those who will see things otherwise and view our efforts based on their line of thinking. In the process, we are bound to meet opposing views that could sometimes lead to misunderstanding and frustrating circumstances.

I have been serving our parish for almost five years now and along the way, I had my share of such frustrating circumstances but the good Lord made me through in all these trials. He gave me an open mind to accept the different cultures and diversities of His people. He gave me the wisdom and humility to accept when I was wrong and the courage to fight for what is right. He always opens my heart to understand and forgive those who have caused me pain and not to harbor grudge against them. If I have relied on just myself, I will be none of these and I may have quit a long time ago, thinking that I do not deserved such frustrations in my life.

What kept me going is whenever I see the image of the crucified Christ. Staring at the cross always reminds me of the words, “Do you love more than these”? Are my frustrations worth to be compared to the sufferings and humiliations my Lord got in order to give the life I have today? No way!

The best I can do is to praise and thank Him for all those infinite blessings and graces that He gives me everyday by way of obeying His will as a servant and steward. Frustrations and disappointments are part of our service but we should always look upon them as an opportunity for us to be better persons in the eyes of our Lord. The truth is we were created not to please men but to give honor to our God.

It is not for us to judge other people’s intent when we are being opposed, but it is incumbent upon us to always pray for enlightenment for such may also be revelations of something that we have indeed missed to consider.
