WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS?

JONAH

Then they said to one another,“Come, let us cast lots to find out on whose account we have met with this misfortune.”So they cast lots, and thus singled out Jonah.

“Tell us, they said, what is your business?Where do you come from? What is your country, and to
what people do you belong?”

“I am a Hebrew,” Jonah answered them;I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”

Now the men were seized with great fear and said to him,“How could you do such a thing!”They knew that he was fleeing from the LORD, because he had told them“What shall we do with you, they asked, that the sea may quiet down for us?For the sea was growing more and more turbulent.”
Jonah said to them, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea, that it may quiet down for you; since I know it is because of me that this violent storm has come upon you.”

--Jonah 1:1, 2:1, 11

Each day of our lives, the word of the LORD comes to us in different ways. This is an invitation from him for us to set out and spread his word. It also serves as an eye opener to those who chose to live in wickedness and sin.

God’s word can convict us and there are times that we feel we are ashamed to face him. On such occasions, we tend to escape from him and ignore him. In the process, we turn away from Him.

What we usually fail to realize is that whenever the LORD tells us to do something, we can never escape from it. He will surely create events in our lives that will lead to the fulfillment of His word for no word from God returns to Him void. Sooner or later, we still have to face Him and obey whatever He tells us. Will we wait for such events to come that may affect other people because of our disobedience?

Many times in my own life, I chose to evade God’s word but never succeeded in taking them for granted. Such decisions always leads me to harder circumstances of life, and it strips me of the joy of living in peace. I really could not afford to sleep on His word, I have to obey and rise up for the occasion in order to continue experiencing the good life that He has brought upon me.

In doing so, He continues to look after my welfare. He gives me vast opportunities of fortune in the work and business that He had laid before me. In short, He takes care of the business whenever He sets me out to do something.

I did not come from a wealthy family, and living in a developing country is not that easy.

I guess this is one of the reasons why many Filipinos live in Faith. They acknowledge God as the source of their existence, and could easily adopt their lives in accordance to God’s will. They conduct their lives based on what they perceive as God’s signs and revelations.

Many Filipinos are born heroes; they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others. This is why you can see that a lot of them chose to set out in a foreign land to work, so that they can secure the future of their families and bring pride to our beloved nation. From sea base to land base work, you can find Filipinos everywhere.

What is our Business? To live in faith and obedience to God!

We beseech you, O LORD, grant us the wisdom and strength to make sacrifices and hard decisions in our lives that can benefit others, most especially our love ones.
