"Whoever gives to one of these little ones
even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple,
truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."
Matthew 10:41-42
STRANGER IN NEED
Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you (3 Jn. 1:5). By so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it (Heb. 13:2). "What is it, Lord?" he asked. The angel answered, "Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God" (Acts 10:4).
BROTHER IN NEED
Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality (Rom. 12:13). Open your arms to the poor and extend your hands to the needy (Prv. 31:20). If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs (Dt. 15:7-8). And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased (Heb. 13:16).
REWARD
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them (Heb. 6:10). He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done (Prv. 19:7).
This is what the LORD says: "Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded," declares the LORD (Jer. 31:16).
May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge (Ru. 2:12).
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Gal. 6:10).
How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings (Ps. 36:7). May I continue to find favor in your eyes, my lord. You have given me comfort and have spoken kindly to your servant--though I do not have the standing of one of your servant (Ru. 2:13). In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
