HOW WILL YOU LEAD?

One Sunday, our church, the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, shall have its First Councils Meeting for the year. All leaders of different religious organizations who are often called servants or elders shall again gather as one body of christ (1 Sm 8:4).

This is also the first time that the new set of officers shall preside over the meeting after being appointed since last October (1 Sm 8:5).

On my part, I am truly thankful to the Lord that he gave me the opportunity to be his instrument in serving the church as the outgoing Head Servant. I have been serving for about five years now and all these came to pass because he permitted me to do so. In most instances during my term, I believe that he has worked mightily in me, knowing that I can never accomplish anything without his guidance and direction.

I also pray for the new set of servant leaders that they may find favor with God in all their undertakings for the glory of his Name (1 Sm 8:6).

Much have already been said regarding the change of leadership that only tends to create division. Anyone who rejects a chosen leader of the Lord reject him as well (1 Sm 8:7).

Leadership is a blessing or a grace that should be viewed as accumulative and not comparative. Each person is blessed with a different talent or charisma. What matters is a chosen leader should be equip with every good work that the Lord has made, transparent and accountable (1 Sm 8:10).

He seeks guidance from the Holy Spirit regarding the true value and essence of the rights and assignments vested upon him (1 Sm 8:11). A gift of understanding . . .

He should learn to trust his co-leaders and observe proper protocols (1 Sm 8:12). A gift of wisdom . . .
A leader looks at Time, Talent and Treasures as graces that belong solely to the Lord (1 Sm 8:13-15). He is just a servant and steward of these graces (1 Sm 8:16-17). A gift of prohecy . . .

He is patient and compassionate, ready to listen and understand the concerns of others (1 Sm 8:18). His decisions are not based on peer pressures or influence but on the will of God alone (1 Sm 8:19). A gift of discernment . . .

To rule and to lead is a spiritual warfare and anything you say or do reflects on your very character. You are no longer the owner of yourself and at any given time, you can be subjected to scrutiny and criticisms (1 Sm 8:20).

Be open minded and always be guided by the word of the Lord (1 Sm 8:21). Obey his will and you will never go wrong (1 Sm 8:22).
