He professes to have knowledge of God,
and calls himself a child of the Lord.
Wisdom 2:13
Jesus said, "The Father loves the Son, and shows him all that he himself is doing; and greater works than these will he show him, that you may marvel (Jn 5:20). For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of man" (Jn 5:26-27).
This was why the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God (John 5:18).
For they reasoned unsoundly, saying to themselves,
"Short and sorrowful is our life,
and there is no remedy when a man comes to his end,
and no one has been known to return from Hades.
Wisdom 2:1
Jesus said, "He who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he
does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life (Jn 5:24). The Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will (Jn 5:21). The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live" (Jn 5:25).
Let us lie in wait for the righteous man,
because he is inconvenient to us and opposes our actions;
he reproaches us for sins against the law,
and accuses us of sins against our training.
Wisdom 2:12
He became to us a reproof of our thoughts;
the very sight of him is a burden to us,
because his manner of life is unlike that of others,
and his ways are strange.
Wisdom 2:14-15
Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, that the Son does likewise" (Jn 5:19). I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my
judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who
sent me." (Jn 5:30).
We are considered by him as something base,
and he avoids our ways as unclean;
he calls the last end of the righteous happy,
and boasts that God is his father.
Wisdom 2:16
Jesus said, "The hour is coming when
all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who
have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done
evil, to the resurrection of judgment" (Jn 5:28-29). My Father is working still, and I am working" (Jn 5:17).
Let us see if his words are true,
and let us test what will happen at the end of his life;
for if the righteous man is God's son, he will help him,
and will deliver him from the hand of his adversaries.
Wisdom 2:17-18
Let us see if his words are true
When they heard these words, some of the people said, "This is really the prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ is descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" So there was a division among the people over him. (John 7:40-43)
Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did you not bring him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" (John 7:44-46)
The Pharisees answered them, "Are you led astray, you also? Have any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? (John 7:47-48)
Let us test him with insult and torture,
that we may find out how gentle he is,
and make trial of his forbearance.
and make trial of his forbearance.
Let us condemn him to a shameful death,
for, according to what he says, he will be protected.
Wisdom 2:19-20
The LORD made it known to me and I knew; then thou didst show me their evil deeds. But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more." (Jer. 11:18-19)
Thus they reasoned, but they were led astray,
for their wickedness blinded them,
and they did not know the secret purposes of God,
nor hope for the wages of holiness,
nor discern the prize for blameless souls.
Wisdom 2:21-22
"You know me, and you know where I come from?" (John 7:28)
"The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father.He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him."
John 5:22-23
