Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem like nothing in your eyes?
But now take courage, and work for I am with you. This is the pact that I made with you and my spirit continues in your midst; do not fear!
One moment yet, a little while, and I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all the nations, and the treasures of all the nations will come in, and I will fill this house with glory. Mine is the silver and mine the gold. Greater will be the future glory of this house than the former; and in this place I will give you peace. --Haggai 1:15-2:9
REFLECTION
Three years had passed since we all remember our church to be like this. Now it looks totally different but much work is still left undone. At first, the momentum was great but as time passes by, we seem to forget the importance of the mission that God had entrusted to us.
All of us have different reasons why we chose to accept such a mission. In my case, when the word of the Lord came some four years ago before its actual implementation, I had a lot of questions and apprehensions. I am just one of those regular church goers when Msgr. Albert Venus the parish priest then, sent an invitation through my sister that I attend his servant leaders meeting. In that meeting, I was introduced and was immediately designated as Vice Chairman of the Construction Committee headed by Vicky Corunia.
The plan was introduced to the parish community through Ugnayan Masses and on regular Sunday Masses. It met some resistance from technical groups most especially to some of those who were involved in its original construction. They do not agree to the proposed plan of totally constructing a new structure, instead what they proposed is an extension of the original structure. This led to the resignation of Vicky Corunia as head and a temporary suspension of the plan.
Msgr. Albert and myself met one morning and discussed lengthily the plan. Although majority of the parishioners are endorsing the project, he decided to pursue further consultation on the matter. After about a year of suspension, the plan was revised by Architect Boy Suyosa and an expansion plan was presented to the parishioners to coincide with the celebration of the Christmas Season. Msgr. Albert announced that the consultation was concluded and the project will be launched comes January 2004.
In February 2004, we undertook the formal ground breaking with Bishop Jesse Mercado, Mayor Aguilar and Congresswoman Villar.
Construction began in March of 2004 and I was designated to handle the Ways and Means. Up until today, I continue to assist the new Parish Priest, Fr. Greg Ramos in undertaking the said project.
To God be the glory!
