A good steward religiously reports properties entrusted to him and does not squander them.
Prepare a full account of your stewardship, because this is the position entrusted to you. Such a position is neither permanent nor exclusive but can be transferred to another at any given time.
Stewardship does not only require proper handling of resources but likewise building a good relationship with the people you work with. Resources gathered are not kept, but shared to a need, and you should understand the importance and value of these needs. Act with prudence in dealing with other people. Make friends so that you will be welcomed.
Be trustworthy in both small matters and in great ones. If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?
You only serve one masters and that is God.
REFLECTION
I received a forwarded text message from the head of the Parish Finance Council, acknowledging receipt of the budget sent by the Young Adult Ministry regarding their spearheaded activity for the coming feast of our patroness, the Our Lady of the Pillar. In the said message, she was inquiring from the ministry as to where they are intending to get the resources needed. Their reply was this should be taken up with the Fiesta Committee.
In my last meeting with the Executive Committee, she proposed that a fund raising be held after the feast for the purpose of building funds for pastoral programs. She mentioned of a concept “Breakfast for a Cause” sometime in November. I advised her to first finalize the mechanics and organize the necessary core group, before inviting the servant leaders for a meeting.
In both cases, I could sense that the head of the Parish Finance Council is somewhat worried about the status of funds to support our pastoral programs. She also made mention to me that she already advanced the needed funds for the feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz, although it is still uncertain if said funds can be returned in full.
In my own opinion, up until now, we continue to walk on the wrong foot. We discussed funding as the need arise because we still do not have an honest to goodness direction in terms of our pastoral priorities. We go by the tide so to speak just so we can have an on-going activity not even knowing if these activities are tied-up or linked with one another towards a common goal and direction.
By the grace of God, our parish has been awakened to the need of a planning council that will set its directions in accordance with the true vision and mission set forth by the Diocesan Pastoral Assembly or DPA.
It is my hope and prayer that once this is put into motion, all these things will then be properly resolved.
