HOW DOES THE LORD SEE MY CONTRIBUTION TO HIS CHURCH?

In Luke 21:3-4, the Lord said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had."

"Instead of looking for other opportunities to earn during these most trying times, I devote my time and talent to accomplish the responsibilities given to me by my pastor. As Head of the Planning Council, I have to submit our Parish Plans and Programs on or before the second week of next month. On top of this, the Books of Account for our on-going Church Construction is also needed by the Diocese for audit purposes. Time and again, I have proven that in my hour of need, the good Lord never fails to look after my comfort and welfare. I have tried several times in the past to set aside my role and responsibilities in the church so that I could focus on my work and business but the more I strive to work, I always end up being frustrated. The amazing part is whenever I surrender my life to Jesus, and give the best of what I can do for Him in His church, business blessings just come pouring at my lap."

A person who is full and abundant is a god of himself. He may acknowledge the Lord as a supreme being who is the one true "God and Ruler of All", but he does not care much because he knows that his successes in life is attributed to him alone. He thinks of himself as self-sufficient, and his riches are born from his own hard work. Out of his abundance, he gives to his church or to charity but such are only nickels and dimes as compared to the profits that he receives. When it comes to serving the Lord, he will never render his most valued time.

On the other hand, one who has none always looks up to God as his provider. He gives up everything to the Lord in the hope that in return, God will look after His needs and welfare. He may not give as much in terms of material resources as compared to rich people who can afford to do so, but he is willing to render all of his time for the Lord.

Doing God's Work is a "Calling" so to speak. Not all are chosen to do so, but once you have been called by the Lord, you can not escape your destiny. Many prophets in the past have tried to evade their calling but they always end up doing the work that God had chose them to do. They were made to sacrifice themselves, giving up their own personal desires for the greater good of many. In truth, the best servant therefore, is one who puts "God First" in everything he does.

As St. Augustine once said, "O Truth, you are present to those who seek your help, and at one and the same time you answer all, though they seek your counsel on different matters. You respond clearly. but not everyone hears clearly. All ask what they wish, but do not always hear the answer they wish. Your best servant is he who is intent not so much on hearing his petition answered, as rather on willing whatever he hears from you."
