"Trade with these till I come."
Luke 19:13
In trading, one expects a good return of his investment. Similarly, the Lord expects us to be fruitful and productive on whatever blessing or graces we receive from Him. In business parlance, He is our Capitalist. All things in this world belongs to Him and we are just made to be good stewards of His resources. A working capital is the first essential component in trading, such resource should never be spent on non-profitable expense items otherwise the business will eventually fail.
God provides for our daily needs by way of opening up good and sound opportunities on how to work and earn a living. It is always fitting to save a portion of such earnings in order to build-up a resource capital that we can invest on fruitful endeavors. Such savings, if made to profit could be a good source of alternative income.
I have been in business for a long time. I started trading by way of buying and selling second-hand vehicles. It was a profitable endeavor but it usually requires a great deal of capital. Since I was then operating on borrowed money, I really haven't been consistent in pursuing this type of business. The profits I made were just good enough to sustain our daily needs and I was not able to build up enough capital to sustain such an income generating work endeavor. After returning back what I owe, I have to close shop.
Recently, our church adopted a resolution to save 10% from all fund-raising activities. This fund is a build-up savings fund that is intended not to be spent, but to be invested in the bank for interest or profit. The return of investment shall then be used as one source of fund for pastoral programs.
Personally, I already thought of such scheme some few years back, and applied it in my own family. I started the 10% scheme but it did not work well for me because of other mounting obligations that I have to settle. Then I thought of another scheme and that is to start little by saving "loose change or coins". As the Lord said in Luke 19:17 "Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities." After quite sometime, I opened-up the can where I kept all the loose change and coins and was surprised to see that I was able to accumulate a good sum of money! Such a resource became very valuable to me and it never crossed my mind to spent it, but instead used it to open a trust fund for my daughter.
